Tourist Train
The tourist train is operated by VLI to preserve Brazil’s railway heritage. The steam locomotive connecting São João del-Rei to Tiradentes is the oldest in operation in Brazil and attracts visitors from all over the world. Beyond the amazing train ride, the railway complex features attractions such as the railway museum and the roundhouse—a famous structure used for the maintenance and storage of railway vehicles, preserving the history and heritage of Brazil’s railroads.
Fares
One-way trip: R$ 86.00 (full) | R$ 43.00 (half).
Round trip: R$ 172 (full) | R$ 86 (half).
Free for children under 5 (Birth certificate required).
Who qualifies for half-price tickets?
● Kids (6–12 years old) – Birth certificate required;
● Students – valid student ID and photo ID required;
● Seniors (60+ years old) – valid photo ID required.
● Persons with disabilities or reduced mobility, plus one accompanying person if applicable.
● Teachers traveling with student groups (1 per 10 students).
Train Ticket Sales
You can buy tickets at self-service kiosks in both São João del-Rei and Tiradentes, at authorized sales points, or online. The steam locomotive runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Ticket sales for each trip automatically close 30 minutes before departure.

Rescheduling and Cancellations
You can reschedule your ticket free of charge up to three hours before departure. After this period, a fee of 20% of the ticket price will apply. Rescheduling is valid for up to one year from the original travel date, in accordance with the National Land Transport Agency Resolution No. 5974, March 21, 2022.
For ticket cancellations, a 5% fee will be charged based on the ticket fare, as per National Land Transport Agency Resolution No. 5974, March 21, 2022.

● As required by law, engers must present an original ID with a photo, along with their ticket at boarding.
● Starting October 21, 2024, ticket sales will close 30 minutes before each train departure to ensure timely departures and a smooth boarding process.
